South Dakota’s 97th Legislative Session Begins Tuesday, Jan 11

Family Heritage Alliance is excited to advance faith, family, and freedom in 2022.

Through working with our legislators and state officials, we will ensure that you have a voice in the public square. In doing so, we will advance Christian values and make South Dakota the most welcoming state to people of faith. This year we will also help educate and equip the public to become involved in the fight through emails, luncheons, and educational seminars.

South Dakota’s 97th Legislative Session begins January 11th, and Norman Woods (Executive Director of FHA) and Debbie Pease (Lobbyist & Policy Analyst for FHA) will be at the Capitol working to help pass pro-family legislation. We plan to send a recap-video at the end of every week informing you of the bills being presented and the progress we are making.

There have been 43 bills already filed as of January 5th. Usually, we see 400-500 bills filed each year, so we are off to an incredible start. Many of these bills provide exciting opportunities to advance faith and family values. This year we expect to see bills on the following topics:

  • Commercial surrogacy
  • The sanctity of life
  • Parental rights
  • Religious liberty
  • Marijuana
  • Homeschooling
  • Women’s sports
  • Gender “transition” surgery, and more.

You can keep track of the bills we believe will impact our values by watching our Legislative Radar.

We are so excited to meet with many of you this year at our various events. We know there is immense value in grassroots movements and community building, which is why we look forward to meeting with you!

Our Legislative Preview Luncheons are on January 7th in Rapid City and January 10th in Sioux Falls. We are also hosting a day at the Capitol on February 3rd, and we will charter a bus from Rapid City and Sioux Falls to the event. These gatherings are excellent opportunities to get to know like-minded individuals, rally together for a shared cause, and become more involved with Family Heritage Alliance. We would be honored to have you join us. You can learn more and register for these events here.

Please remember FHA in your prayers, as our battle is primarily spiritual. Please also pray for our state legislators and officials, that they would be guided by God and His Word. You can find resources to facilitate individual and group prayer here.

If you are able to, please consider donating here to help us amplify your voice and promote your values. Together we can ensure that God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive, and life is cherished in South Dakota.

Thank you for your continued support. We are so excited to see what we can accomplish together in 2022!
