Raising Godly children in our morally depraved culture is no easy task, but it is one of the most important roles God has trusted us with.
The media, entertainment, government, and public schools all threaten to indoctrinate our children with dangerous ideas. They are constantly inundated with radical gender ideology and racist ideas based on Critical Race Theory (CRT).
Even the Biden administration is promoting “gender affirming care” and encouraging children to undergo dangerous, experimental procedures that have proven to cause irreversible harm. Adults who transitioned as teens are speaking out about the “collaborative idiocy” that scarred them both physically and mentally, but the left continues to ignore them and deny reality. Instead of offering children the help that they need, our own government is feeding them lies.
Pulling children out of public school or shielding them from cultural influences isn’t always an option. This means we must intentionally teach our children about the lies coming from the left and how to combat them. Parents’ job is to train children for battle in the ideological war of our age.
“Your training must start early, be taught daily, and be applied creatively,” writes Katy Faust and Stacy Manning for the Federalist. “Take a page from the woke playbook’s ability to weave sex and gender theory into ‘literature classes, math classes, social studies classes, P.E. classes, and art.’ Find ways to connect as many moments throughout each day to biological, economic, and historical reality.”
Parents must first become experts in all the topics that the left has taken over with lies including abortion, socialism, sexual ideology, critical race theory, evolution, and more. “Becoming an expert emboldens you to live out Deuteronomy 6:7, teaching the truth ‘diligently to your children … when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise,’” write Faust and Manning.
There are a number of resources online that aim to equip parents and children to stand firm in God’s Truth in the midst of a cultural war including BreakPoint podcast, Wallbuilders, Young Heretics, Prager U Kids, and many more. Most importantly, parents should spend time reading the Bible with their children and engaging in intentional at-home catechesis. The Word of God is our greatest defense against the lies of the devil.
Christian parent must be intentionally countercultural and refuse to let their children live as the rest of the world does. This requires closely monitoring and limiting the media that they consume and structuring their days so that Christ is at the center. If we allow the culture to raise our children, they will surely adapt its moral depravity.
The left has no intention of surrendering in the ideological war that will destroy our children’s hearts, minds, and bodies if we don’t prepare them. Our only option is to engage in the battle with them and ensure that they are well-versed in the Truth.
